    Many vaccines require booster shots after the initial vaccine. Classic example: tetanus shot. If my memory serves me correctly, you need to get a booster shot every 10 years. They serve the purpose of re-familiarizing your body to whatever you are being vaccinated against. They are not required for every vaccine, just those that show strong evidence of significant waning immunity over time.
